A case of severe ganciclovir-induced encephalopathy - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Ganciclovir, a drug against cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, is generally well tolerated, but can cause neurotoxicity such as encephalopathy. Although ganciclovir-induced encephalopathy has been described in several reports, a literature search revealed that ganciclovir concentrations in the blood or cerebrospinal fluid were previously measured in only 3 patients with encephalopathy.

The development of squamous cell carcinoma in a patient after kidney transplantation: A case report - Abstract

In patients with organ transplantation as compared to the general population the risk of cancer is significantly increased. The most common changes are malignant tumors of the skin, constituting 30-65% of malignant tumors found in recipients.

Robotic kidney transplantation with regional hypothermia: A step-by-step description of the vattikuti urology institute-medanta technique (IDEAL Phase 2a) - Abstract

BACKGROUND: We recently reported on preclinical and feasibility studies (Innovation, Development, Exploration, Assessment, Long-term study [IDEAL] phase 0-1) of the development of robotic kidney transplantation (RKT) with regional hypothermia. This paper presents the IDEAL phase 2a studies of technique development.

Clinical implications for graft function of a new equation model for the ratio of living donor kidney volume to recipient body surface area - Abstract

PURPOSE: We propose an equation that predicts graft function after kidney transplantation by using donated kidney volume and recipient body surface area (BSA).

Improving end-of-life care for ESRD patients: an initiative for professionals - Abstract

The Coalition for Supportive Care of Kidney Patients convened subject matter experts (SMEs) to assess the current state of palliative care for pre-dialysis (chronic kidney disease) and end-stage renal disease patients (stages 3-5).

Ocular complications after kidney transplantation: A case report and review of literature - Abstract

Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis type II (MPGN II), also known as a dense deposit disease, is a chronic progressive kidney disease that often progresses to end-stage renal disease within 10 years.

Allogeneic kidney transplantation : Preoperative, perioperative and postoperative management - Abstract

Allogeneic renal transplantation is the best treatment for many patients with chronic renal failure and end-stage kidney disease.

Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy in patients with baseline chronic kidney disease: A multi-institutional propensity score-matched analysis - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RPN) in the setting of chronic kidney disease (CKD) presents additional challenges for the preservation of renal function.

Regeneration and bioengineering of the kidney: Current status and future challenges - Abstract

The prevalence of chronic kidney disease continues to outpace the development of effective treatment strategies.

Renal function following curative surgery for renal cell carcinoma: Who is at risk for renal insufficiency? - Abstract

PURPOSE: To investigate the incidence and predictive factors associated with the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients undergoing curative surgery for renal cell carcinoma.

Impact of gender and dialysis modality on early mortality risk in diabetic ESRD patients: Data from a large single center cohort - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus (DM)-associated chronic kidney disease (diabetic renal disease) became the predominant etiology of the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in the western countries and shows the same trend in the developing countries.

Cystatin C and serum creatinine as predictors of kidney graft outcome - Abstract

PURPOSE: Serum cystatin C (Cys C) was evaluated as a predictor of kidney graft failure progression, and its predictive ability was compared to other markers of graft function.

Impact of ureteral length on urological complications and patient survival after kidney transplantation - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Urologic complications are of the most important complications after kidney transplantation which increases mortality and morbidity significantly.

Body mass index and early kidney function decline in young adults: A longitudinal analysis of the CARDIA (Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults) study - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Identifying potentially modifiable risk factors is critically important for reducing the burden of chronic kidney disease.

Acute kidney injury from cherry concentrate in a patient with CKD - Abstract

Nutraceuticals are supplements and medical foods that offer numerous health benefits.

Predictive factors of infection in the first year after kidney transplantation - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Infectious disease, a complication favored by immunosuppression, is the main cause of 1st-year mortality in solid organ transplantation.

A reversible cause of 'end-stage renal disease': Discrepant findings in serial duplex ultrasonograms in a suspected occlusion of a renal arterial bypass graft - Abstract

Duplex ultrasonography may be inaccurate due to a number of variables in operator and patient characteristics.

Chronic kidney disease in older people with intellectual disability: Results of the HA-ID study - Abstract

With increasing longevity and cardiovascular events, chronic kidney disease may also become a significant problem in older people with intellectual disability (ID).

Better recovery of kidney function in patients with de novo chronic kidney disease after partial nephrectomy compared with those with pre-existing chronic kidney disease - Abstract

We compared kidney functional recovery between patients with pre-existing chronic kidney disease, those with de novo chronic kidney disease and those with normal kidney function, after partial nephrectomy.

Does living donor hyperoxia have an impact on kidney graft function after transplantation? - Abstract

BACKGROUND: Improvement in the outcome of organ transplantation is related to advances in patient selection criteria, organ preservation, operative techniques, perioperative care and efficacy of immunosuppressive agents.
