MR imaging has proven to be a versatile modality in evaluation of the kidneys, collecting system, and adrenal glands.
By performing a comprehensive MR examination, it is not only possible to accurately characterize cystic and solid lesions of the kidneys, as well as urothelial masses, but also to provide important preoperative information to the surgeon. In addition, MR imaging can characterize many adrenal lesions and can frequently obviate biopsy. The continued development and growth of MR technology combined with the current trend toward minimally invasive surgery will expand the role of MR imaging in the future.
