Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates 2013 Annual Symposium

An outstanding educational program taught by expert faculty awaits urologic nurses and health care professionals at the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) Annual Symposium, March 7-9, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah, GA. Attendees will enhance their practice while exploring the latest treatment advances for incontinence, pelvic floor issues, urodynamics, and more.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to earn continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hours, network with colleagues, view poster presentations, meet with vendors in the exhibit hall, and explore a city rich in culture and history.

Urodynamics Course
Back by popular demand, the Urodynamics Course incorporates standards of training recommendations from the International Continence Society (ICS) and provides basic training in urodynamics. The track begins on Thursday, March 7, with an all-day Basic Urodynamics preconference workshop and continues on Friday and Saturday with a full slate of urodynamics concurrent sessions. Program
On Thursday, March 7, five other preconference workshops will offer intensive, hands-on learning for both novice and expert. The workshops include:
- Basic Urodynamics
- Adult EMG Biofeedback for Urinary Incontinence
- Sacral Nerve Stimulation: Effective Troubleshooting Strategies
- Connection Between Pelvic Floor Muscle Function and Quality of Life
- Male Sexual Health and Reproduction
The symposium will officially open on Friday, March 8, with two general sessions. Larry T. Sirls, MD, FACS, will discuss the variety and severity of urologic problems, equipment, personnel, post operative care, and follow up in Sub-Saharan Africa in his Keynote Address, “Urologic Pelvic Floor Issues and Surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa.” Immediately following, Alis Panzera, DrNP, WHNP-BC, RN, and Carolyn M. Sampselle, PhD, ANP, AACN, will present, “One Woman’s Journey in the Search for Prevention: An Interview with Carolyn Sampselle,” where urologic nursing leader, Sampselle, will discuss how she gained success in her specialty and as a researcher.
Concurrent sessions will be on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9. Some of the sessions offered include:
- Vaginal Mesh for the Repair of Pelvic Prolapse
- Urodynamics Coding and Documentation
- Pediatric Biofeedback
- Incontinence Associated Dermatitis
- Use of Botox for Disorders of the Bladder and Pelvic Floor
- Acute and Chronic Prostatitis
- Geriatric Sexuality
Two general sessions will be on Saturday, March 9. “Research,” the first session, will be a platform for SUNA members to share what they are doing to advance the state of urologic nursing science and clinical practice. In the second session, “Fecal Incontinence,” Donna Z. Bliss, PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA, will present advances in knowledge in fecal incontinence from her own research, with a focus on its relevance to urologic nursing.
Online Library
Conference attendees will have free access to symposium sessions, presentations and conference evaluations through the SUNA Online Library. Presentation materials for education courses will be posted in the Online Library two weeks before the conference for attendees to download.
Continuing Nursing Education
The SUNA Annual Symposium will offer 11.5 contact hours of continuing nursing education, with additional contact hours for preconference workshops.
SUNA is an approved provider of continuing nursing education (CNE) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA).
SUNA is an approved provider of continuing education in nursing in California, CEP 5556.
