SUFU 2011 - Open forum: New disease in town - Session Highlights

PHOENIX, AZ USA (UroToday.com) - Dr. Scott MacDiarmind presented his views on refractory OAB (ROAB) which is a condition that he believes to be more prevalent than OAB and is currently effectively managed by medical therapy.

According to Dr. MacDiarmind, ROAB includes those OAB sufferers who do not respond to antimussucarinics in spite of trying multiple agents. They include patients who cannot tolerate and/or cannot afford these drugs as well as those patients who have contraindications to taking antimsucarinics. Additionally, there are those patients who may not want to take medications. Many may surrender to their condition.

There are options including neuromodulation (InterStim) and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (Urgent PC).

Presented by Scott MacDiarmind at the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology (SUFU) 2011 Winter Meeting - March 1 - 5, 2011 - Arizona Biltmore, Phoenix, Arizona, USA
