WMSM 2012 - A new surgical method for the correction of congenital penile curvature based on geometric principles and superficial tunica albuginea excisions - Session Highlights

CHICAGO, IL USA (UroToday) - Dr. Kuehhas reported a new surgical technique for the correction of congenital penile curvature based on geometric principles of the Egydio technique.

This is a modified Nesbit technique consisting of multiple, small, superficial, elliptical excisions of the tunica albuginea. This technique was successful in 99.1% of the 211 men in the study. In 11 patients (5%) a residual curvature of less than 20ᵒ resulted, but these men did not opt for additional surgery. Residual curvature of up to 30ᵒ was identified in 2 patients, and those patients did undergo additional corrective surgery. There was no recurrence of ventral curvature and these patients resumed the ability to have sexual intercourse with a high rate of satisfaction and renewed self-esteem.

The physicians conclude this technique is a safe alternative for the treatment of congenital ventral or ventro-lateral penile deviation.
