  1. Is there a role for PCNL?
  2. PCNL and SWL have the same cost effectiveness with stones less than 1cm
  3. Larger stones are treated with PCNL in a more cost effective manner than SWL.
  4. Benefits of PCNL
    1. Upper pole access
    2. UPJ access
    3. Upper ureter access
    4. Can handle large stone burdens (>2.0cms)
  5. Ultrasound and impact lithotripsy in PCNL is the most effective in fragmentation, safest, and cost effective
  6. Excellent for the obese patient or patients with bony deformities such as scoliosis
