Outcomes of Robotic Simple Prostatectomy after Prior Failed Endoscopic Treatment of BPH - Beyond the Abstract

Robotic Simple Prostatectomy has evolved over the last 10-12 years to become an important option for men with large gland BPH. I think perhaps the most important advantage of this procedure is that it can be considered the "one stop shop" or the "cleanup hitter" of the BPH surgical options.

Not only can it be useful in patients who have failed prior transurethral surgery, as in this study, but it can be applied in cases of bladder stones, bladder diverticulae, prostate cancer active surveillance, median lobe, or even glands in excess of 400-500g. At this point the functional outcomes of a high volume surgeon should be comparable to those of other surgical options, so RSP should be included when discussing options for these difficult patients.
