TAT-11: Capabilities of JSC "SSC RIAR" in Producing TH227

Ottawa, ON, Canada (UroToday.com) Mr. Butkaliuk described Th227 production at the Joint Stock Company-"State Scientific Center-Research Institute of Atomic Reactors, JSC "SSC RIAR". First Ra226 targets are exposed to a reactor for 20-25 days to produce Th227 and Ac227. The Thorium and Ac are separated by repeated passes through anion-exchange resin columns.

The separated Ac227 can then be used as a generator to produce both Th227 and Ra223. Residual Ac227 contamination is a problem for using these isotopes in therapy.
