TAT-11: Ac-225 Production using TRIUMF’s 500 MeV Cyclotron

Ottawa, ON, Canada (UroToday.com) A Thorium target irradiated by TRIUMF’s 500 MeV proton bean for an integrated current of 2600 micro-hr yields 500 MBq of Ac225 and 64 MBq of Rn225.

A complex chemical dissolution and separation processes a "reagent" grade Ac225 with a 0.2 % contamination of Ac227 by actively using the separated Rn225 as a generator yields an "analytical" grade Ac225 with very little Ac227 contamination. Both methods produce Ac225, which can be used directly to label DOTA chelates.
