ERAS Society 2019: The Society International Urology (SIU)-ERAS Programme: A Collaborative Effort with the ERAS Society to Improve Implementation and Dissemination of ERAS
The SIU is a non-profit organization established in 1907 with over 10,000 members from over 130 countries. In addition to hosting an annual world congress, SIU group members elect a representative to the SIU Research Council and SIU Academy Education Council. The SIU-ERAS Steering committee led by Dr. Williams, Chair, consists of a multidisciplinary team from urology, anesthesia and nursing. The SIU-ERAS Programme was officially launched in September 2018. The aim was to develop content accessible/applicable to healthcare providers from resource-constrained settings with content to range from basic to highly specialized. Moreover, the content is hosted on SIU’s eLearning Platform, SIU Academy which is internationally-representative governance, overseen by SIU Office of Education.
SIU Academy has an eLearning platform accessible anywhere, anytime (mobile application available) with CME accredited programmes. SIU Academy content includes webcasts, expert roundtables, video eSeries, ePosters, expert reviews and more. The SIU Programme consists of several educational videos for patients and providers in addition to the coveted first-ever SIU-ERAS Programme Protocol developed for radical cystectomy. The SIU-ERAS Programme Protocol consists of several recommendations developed in collaboration with the ERAS Society regarding preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative parameters. Cohesively, the protocol provides a framework for providers to build on implementing and disseminating ERAS at their institutions worldwide. In the future, the SIU-ERAS Programme will have more video eSeries available in addition to a case study review and patient information brochure soon to be online. Future plans also include the SIU-ERAS Programme extending into other urologic surgeries.
