Munich, Germany (UroToday.com) Avicenna Roboflex system (Elmed, Turkey) is a novel robotic system to facilitate ureteroscopy (URS). Klein and colleagues performed a prospective multicenter study to evaluate safety and efficacy of robotic system for URS.
After the successful clinical introduction of the Roboflex system 2013 and 2014 at two european robRIRS Centers the data of patients (n=266) who underwent robotic retrograde intrarenal stone treatment (robRIRS) with the system was prospectively recorded and analysed
A total of 266 patients were recruited into this study. There were noly 0.7% complications related to the system failure and procedure was completed in a standard fashion. Stone free rate was over 95%.
Authors presented that the robotic ureteroscopic surgery is feasible. This device is safe and efficient. Further studies are necessary to validate the robotic system and identify the role of the device in the management of urolithiasis.
