San Diego, CA USA (UroToday.com) Alexandra Rehfuss from Albany, NY presented data on longer-term outcomes for patients with neurogenic bladder undergoing botulinum toxin injections. The authors presented data on 38 patients, 5 neurogenic bladder patients who failed, and 33 neurogenic bladder patients with successful treatment with botox.
The successful patients had a median of 5 injections, the mean interval between the injections was 6.8 months. With median follow up 44 months, inreases in maximum capacity were durable throughout follow up.
When comparing patients who failed to those who were successfully treated, they found that patients with a lower pre-botulinum toxin injection bladder capacity were more likely to fail.
